The Foundation Amateur Radio Licence is part of a structured suite of three examinations designed to give access to the amateur radio bands. All prospective radio amateurs must demonstrate a suitable level of competence and proficiency as a pre-requisite to holding a licence.
The Foundation Licence is the entry level to amateur radio. It is intended to provide an exciting introduction to the hobby whilst requiring an acceptable minimum level of skill and experience.
As this is the entry point, no prior subject knowledge is required and there is no set age limits.
Lincoln Short Wave Club holds the courses over a period of two weekends for the Foundation Licence at The Village Hall, Aisthorpe, Lincoln, LN1 3SJ.
The first two days is held over the weekend and covers all the practical parts which include operating the radio and the Morse test of the Foundation Licence. The second weekend covers the theory and operating procedures. You will sit Foundation Licence examination paper on the fourth day, at the end of the course, and be told the results of the exam after the examiner has marked your paper on the fourth day.
