Christmas Social Evening

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 08/12/2021 by G4STO08/12/2021

There was a reasonable turnout for the Christmas Social evening with 17 guests enjoying the seasonal quiz and buffet (supplied by Morrisons and Aldi)!!  I think they enjoyed the quiz although they found it hard; I got all the answers right so it couldn’t have been that hard!!  Well done to the members of the winning team: Graham M1DHV & Sandra and Bob G3VEV & Rosemary.  It’s all over, just a bit more clearing up to do.

Saturday mornings at the shack don’t get any easier

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 23/10/2021 by G4STO27/10/2021

Remember last week the lads dismantled the green shed, well this week they put it back together. I didn’t get there until gone 10 and the lads were waiting for Steve M5ZZZ to go home and fetch the nuts and bolts which he didn’t remember putting gin his car!!!  The base was already in place and levelled ready for the shed being put on once Steve got back; luckily David M7OYN was there with his phone and took a few photos.  We had a few more strong men volunteer today so it made it a little easier although still hard … Continue reading →

Saturday morning at the shack

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 16/10/2021 by G4STO27/10/2021

I was worn out just watching and taking photos today!!  When I got to the club this morning a few members were about to go to Brattleby and evaluate the moving of the green storage container.  Not only did they evaluate the situation they took the container to pieces and transported it back to the shack; I was shattered!!!  Well done Andy M0IYE, Daron 2£0GFY, Graham MM1DHV, Steve \M5ZZZ and Les G1LQB.  Weather permitting it will be erected at the end of the shack next Saturday starting at about 0930; it would be great if there were a few more … Continue reading →

Surplus Equipment Sale

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 10/10/2021 by G4STO27/10/2021

I think the marquee for viewing the surplus equipment and the change of day and time for our Surplus Equipment Sale proved successful with lots of bargains to be had.  We had our regular visitors from surrounding clubs and counties and a few new faces.  Booking in ran smoothly with lots being accepted by Stephen M5SJM in the village hall and then taken to the marquee by Peter 2E0FGA, Andy M0IYE, Stuart M7OYN and probably others I didn’t see!! Roger G3PVU was our auctioneer for the day; Roger was ably assisted by Andy M0IYE finding the lots for sale and … Continue reading →

Surplus Equipment Sale and Friday afternoon at the shack

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 08/10/2021 by G4STO09/10/2021

To try and make the Surplus Equipment Sale Covid safe, the lots will be displayed in a marque with the sides open to allow for plenty of ventilation and the sale will be in the village hall with socially distanced seating and all doors open again allowing for plenty of ventilation. Your safety is our priority. To achieve this the lads went to the club this afternoon to erect the marquee (big tent really) ready for displaying the lots tomorrow. Booking in of equipment will be from 12 noon with the sale starting at 2 p.m.  Usual refreshments will be … Continue reading →

Filming at East Kirkby

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 05/10/2021 by G4STO09/10/2021

North One TV, who are in the process of making a programme outlining the design, specification & the crews of the  WW2 Lancaster bomber, asked our club to help with a CW sequence during which their anchor man Guy Martin would familiarise himself with the vintage Marconi R1155/T1154 & send a short message in morse using a ‘bathtub’ key.   Quite a tall order for a man who is an ace on a motor bike but has never touched a morse key in his life before or operate a vintage radio!    Our club team decided to set up a temporary station in the control tower using the call GX5FZ & Guy would communicate with it from our nearby Lancaster facsimile station, equipped with a serviceable R1155/T1154 in our East Kirkby ‘Shack’ using the call GB2CWP.  Guy, as you can imagine, was full of enthusiasm, determination to get the job done to the best of … Continue reading →

GB2CWP on Air

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 22/09/2021 by G4STO22/09/2021

On Tuesday 21st September Steve M5ZZZ and David G1WVO opened the radio room at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby to visitors.  They had lots of interested people and several took up the offer of trying to send their name in Morse code.  Brian G4HIV also joined the team and operated and demonstrated the R1155/T1154.  The radio room is next open to the public on Tuesday 19th October 2021.. Saturday morning at the shack

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 18/09/2021 by G4STO22/09/2021

Once again I got to the shack when the work was done, well the shed roof sealing was finished.  Daron 2E0GFY can’t make it to the club next Saturday when some LSWC members are having a morning on the lawn setting up and working with their portable equipment so he brought his set-up to the club this morning.  David M7OYN worked his first HF station using Daron’s equipment.
