Another busy Saturday morning at the shack

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 27/01/2020 by G4STO22/02/2020

The mast for the satellite project was erected in December so this week Stephen M5SJM, Richard M7RKK and Les G1LQB made sure the antenna for the project would be kept safe until needed; it also means it doesn’t have to be moved in and out of the shack when we have meetings.

Building parabolic dish feeds for the bands 23cm and 13cm using minimal tooling

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 23/12/2019 by G4STO23/12/2019

Club member Andy G0FVI has had an article published in Scatterpoint, the UK microwave group newsletter. The article is about building parabolic dish feeds for the bands 23cm and 13cm using minimal tooling. Andy decided early in 2019 to have a go at EME on 23/13 cm plus putting together a station to work through QO100, the first geostationary amateur satellite. Constructing dish feeds for these frequencies normally involves finding someone with a lathe to accurately cut metal to precise dimensions. Searching around for a local firm to do the cutting did not yield any takers despite many of these … Continue reading →

Christmas Social Evening

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 18/12/2019 by G4STO23/12/2019

There was a good turnout for the club Christmas Social evening with 29 out of the 38 expected guests enjoying a finger buffet and seasonal quiz!!  Andy M0KED and Linda were second and third on the scene and helped Pam G4STO get the food out of her boot and on to the tables. It wasn’t long before other members arrived and set out the hall ready for the buffet which was followed by a Christmas Quiz, taken off the internet by Pam; apparently it was difficult. The winning team with six out of fourteen questions right and after 11 tie-break … Continue reading →

Illustrated talk on RAF Stenigot

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 20/11/2019 by G4STO20/11/2019

On Wednesday 6th November Lincoln Short Wave Club had the pleasure of listening to Chris Lester, a Chartered Engineer retired from the microwave electronics industry, giving an illustrated talk on RAF Stenigot.  Chris informed us how RAF Stenigot formed part of the WWII “Chain Home” radar system, the world’s first integrated air defence radar system which was in operation between 1938 and 1955 and it continued in use during the Cold War as an Ace High a NATO communications relay station using Tropo. propagation. The system allows the NATO to send data from the north of Norway to southern Greece … Continue reading →

Lincoln Shortwave Club Posted on 28/10/2019 by G4STO31/10/2019

There will be a talk at Lincoln Short Wave Club Wednesday 6th November on the history of RAF Stenigot radar station. Thanks to Eagle Radio Club for putting us onto this superb presentation and for the original publicity which has been edited only to reflect change of venue. RAF Stenigot – a Pioneering Radar Station RAF Stenigot formed part of the WWII “Chain Home” radar system – the world’s first integrated air defence radar system, many of whose principles are still applicable today.
